Book Review links: REAL by Katy Evans & MINE by Katy Evans
~
When did you know that you wanted to be a writer?
Ever since I was twelve and reading Sweet Valley High. This is definitely a dream come true.
Is this your first book? Or have you written any others books, published or unpublished?
I’ve been writing for all my life, entering contests, dabbling with short stories, but REAL is the only full length book written straight from the heart.
What made you want to write a book an ex-MMA fighter with bipolar disorder?
It was the way Remy’s character spoke to me. He was fully formed in my mind.
Why bipolar disorder? Is there someone in your life that has this disorder? If so, how has that impacted your writing?
I do have a dear friend with BD and it was important to me to treat it with care and compassion.
If you weren’t an author what kind of work would you do and what kind of work did you do before this?
I love animals, so I’d say a vet.
I noticed you have been pretty accurate about the treatment of Remy and makes you conscientious of how it’s portrayed.
Obviously, accuracy isn’t something that’s possible when different people suffer from it in different ways. I just had to do what I felt in my heart was right for Remy. As far as MMA, I did research the fighting styles and the craft itself.
Did you base this book on a real person or fictional? If fictional, who was your inspiration?
Fictional and Remy.
It’s hard to explain it but I felt as if the character spoke to me and told me his story.
How do you write the steamy scenes of your book?
While blushing. 😀
Tell me about your publishing journey; did you start self published? How did you catch the eye of Simon and Shuster?
I found my readers when I first self-published. The blogging community embraced me and the novel and for that I’m eternally grateful. When S&S (Simon and Shuster) found Remy, I was ecstatic. I mean, who wouldn’t be!
How did you get your inspiration for the direction of the book?
It all began with Remy. He was the first character I met, and he wanted me to tell his story, REAL. Best time of my life!
Do you write outside your home? In a office?
At home after getting my family ready for the day. Then it’s my time to write.
When I first spoke to you about this series you were very passionate about getting Remy’s story out; is there a special reason why you feel this need?
I love Remy. He’s just the heart of the book, while Brooke is the soul. I wanted the readers to hear from him as I do.
Now that you have your book series soon to be completed, what kind of work do you have planned next? Movie deal? New book series?
I’m definitely working on something! First off, finishing the REAL series, and then, more surprises on the way, for sure!
Andrea’s book blog we believe in helping others help themselves; are there any organizations or causes you support that you would like to mention?
I also believe in helping others and, when I can, I love to donate to charities who support people with mental illness, cancer, leukemia, and multiple sclerosis, to name a few.
Last and final question is there any thing you would like to say to your fans?
I am so grateful for the readers, both new and old that have found Remy, Brooke, and me. You can’t imagine what it means to me to have such passionate, supportive readers.
