BOOK SUMMARY
BOOK REVIEW
First of all, this book is very different from Jamie McGuire’s Beautiful Disaster series or Providence series books. It is what the book synopsis describes as a ‘zombie apocalyptic book.’ If you have been reading my reviews you know I don’t read zombie books. But because I love the author, Jamie McGuire, I wanted to give it a try. I am glad I did because this one was so much fun.
Now I am going to break down how this book reads.
First of all the book has three character’s points of view (POV):
1. Scarlet- radiologist and mother of two daughters (Halle and Jenna)
3. Miranda- college student who is traveling with her boyfriend (Cooper), her sister (Ashley), and sister’s boyfriend (Bryce)
3. Nathen- a father of a little girl named Zoe
All of their stories intertwine which I thought was genius. It really helped me look at this book like a movie. You are left to wonder how they all fit together and it comes together perfectly.
Ok, in the first scene you are reading is Scarlet’s POV. With each character’s POV you get the synopsis of their life before “the disease outbreak”. Scarlet’s story is so heart- warming; newly divorced with two daughters she adores. The reader gets a sense of how Scarlet feels being separated from them. The book really gets you sucked into the characters and the stories of their lives. I really could see scenes playing out in my head as I was reading. Scarlet works in the hospital and sees everything go wrong first hand. You also meet Miranda and Nathen and read how their stories are told.
I have to say there was not one character that I did not like. Each one had their quirks but they were all really nice people trying to survive. I don’t know about you, but sometimes when I go to the movies (mainly in horror films) I have the urge to yell at the heroine. I say something like “turn around stupid!” or “why didn’t you listen to me?” I did not do this once while reading this book. All of the characters were smart and strategic in what they did. Now there were some heartwarming parts of the book that will make you shed a tear because the people in this book are just that wonderful.
Now I must warn you, if you read this book at night you just might just have some zombie dreams. This book reads like a movie and the author is very descriptive of the surroundings. You will get a full and descriptive picture of what is going on. I also warn you that you will want to read this book in a single sitting, so give yourself some time to read the WHOLE book. I also warn you that this is NOT a romance book, there are romantic elements in the book, but the plot is not solely based on it.
So overall, I enjoyed this book; it was entertaining and just the right amount of story so you don’t get lost. This is a standalone book so there are no cliff hangers.
Now your ready to read to the book!
