“A riveting love story that I didn’t want to end.”
Ok, folks – I had a throwback moment and wanted to finally write my review of one of the reasons I started to blog. This book did it for me… this one had me emotionally screaming after reading. I mean, this story has it all – action, drama, romance, and a hot alpha gangsta that you fall in love with. I read this book in 2011, and to this day I still re-read it from time to time. It’s not sexually explicit or even inappropriate for younger readers, and it is pretty hard for me to love a book outside of New Adult or Contemporary Romance genres, but this one did it for me. Maybe the author could re-write some scenes to be more racy, but really when you read it, it really doesn’t need it. It has just enough tension built into it, the type that New Adult books master but without the details. I am waiting desperately for the sequel.
I read this book in 2011 but didn’t have the blog to rave about it. When I read the book, I finished it in one setting. I played scenes in my head over and over after and during reading. The simple purity of this story stuck with me and still does.
The story is about a girl, Emily, who lost her bother in an alleged drug overdose. Emily’s family is very well off but has always idolized her brother who died and her brother was the black sheep in the family. She wanted to stick close to her brother’s grave after he died and attends a college near her brother’s burial site, even though her family hates her living conditions and the school that doesn’t measure up to her wealthy upbringing. Then one day while running, she literally gets hit by a random – rather large – dog and she meets Cameron, a major gang leader and the rest is too good to tell you more.
“My addiction to you is a definitely a catastrophic weakness”
I went on a journey with this one – it wasn’t a typical gangster story because this story’s hero focus is not the drugs or the gang relationship, but on the relationships among the characters. You read this in Emily’s POV and experience her fears and understand her rationalization regarding what is happening to her. There are some sweet moments between Emily and the other characters in the story which sucks you in and makes you feel the family connection she has with them; this makes the losses they experience so devastating.
I mean, why-oh-why did the author leave the ending they way she did! The ending is why I obsessed about this book after I read it and tried contacting with the author to find out what is going on with the sequel. Well, I got good news and found out that the sequel is called Scared Crow and has just completed editing and just needs a new cover to publish. Warning: there is a HUGE cliff hanger and I NEED TO KNOW HOW THIS STORY ENDS!! As soon as I get a publish date I will post that for everyone to see. I know you will want to know once you read the first installment.
This book I gave a solid 5 stars!!! It was all I needed and ever wanted in a romance book!!
