Book Review

Losing hope is the Point of View of the main male character in Hopeless. The book starts off in a period before he meets Sky and explains what really happened when he first lost Hope. The author Colleen Hoover always does a good job giving you a description of a wide range of emotions her characters feels. While reading this POV I felt Holders’ thoughts of worries and paranoia throughout the book. I could not help but think that Holder was kinda lost in all that has happened to his family. Yes, his mother, sister, and father were amiss but no one really paid attention to what Holder was feeling. They knew he blamed himself for Hope being kidnapped, but had no idea the demons he was facing until it was too late and he got in trouble with the law.

“Dammit, I miss you so much, I’m so sorry I let you down. I’m sorry I wasn’t able to see what was really going in behind your eyes every time you told me you were fine.” -Holder

.“I don’t deserve her. I don’t deserve her understanding and I sure as hell don’t deserve the way she just made my heart feel.” -Holder

You also learn why he is called by Holder not his name Dean; I thought that was a nice bonus of information about Holder that helped us understand the depth of Holder’s struggles. There were some favorite moments I enjoyed re-reading like,
.
“I live you, Sky” I say against her lips. “I live you so much.” -Holder

There is a huge surprise toward the end of the book that explains what really was going on in his sister’s head before she killed herself. I perked up and caught myself saying OMG out loud, and because I don’t want to give it away you must read it to receive the “AHA moment” it gave me. Thank you, Colleen Hoover, for giving Holder some closure in the end. I really think the ray of acknowledgment helped him move forward and helped Sky/Hope to understand his family decisions in that matter.
“Losing Hope is a touching story that will make you fall in love with Holder even more in the end” -Andrea’s Book Blog
