Squeeee!! Today is release day!
Ok peeps, I can’t say how long I have been waiting for this because well, it’s been forever to me. I have a Filter on my blog stating “Things to Read After Beautiful Disaster” – that’s how much I love this series. The last book I read that kept me hanging in this series was Walking Disaster and had me gagging after reading the epilogue and wanting to know what our fine Travis and his brother were going to be up too. I really thought we would get some kind of insight on Travis during that point where the Walking Disaster epilogue left off, but no cigar. What I will say is that this sneaky little author dangled a carrot at the end that had me squealing and hopping up and down – like REALLY hoping up and down (my husband thought something was wrong). But in the end, Jamie McGuire does not disappoint and I am left daydreaming more about those Maddox men.
This will be a spoiler-free review that will only reference things the synopsis tells you, so you’re safe to proceed forward and read my review.
This story is about Travis’s brother Trent and the bartender we meet somewhat in Beautiful Disaster and Walking Disaster; her name is Camille. The timeline of the book is in conjunction with that of Beautiful Disaster. I love that about this book, because once again we get another perspective of Travis and his story, and you get to even read a scene from their story we never even heard of before.
I was so stuck on this book just as I was in all the books in this series family, but this story had a very different flare to it. Camille and Trent are older than Travis and Peg, so they have more grown people problems that they are dealing with. I really connected with Camille, with her hard-working self and real openness about her. I was so drawn to her story and her struggles, it really felt real, that this really could happen or has happened already and I’m just now getting word of her story. Then enters Trent, who just like his brother smacks you across the face and demands your attention. I mean, Trent screamed to me through the pages, “PAY ATTENTION TO ME” just as his brother did to Abby in the scene where he was trying to get her back, and he said “I BELONG TO YOU” – yeah, well if you read Beautiful Disaster you will know what I mean and you know what happens afterwards and frankly Trent has you just like that.
So I finished reading this story and each and every time I read something that blows my mind, I have to try to reach out to the author or somebody, but in this case I had no other choice but the author, because the book is not out yet so I held my breath and wrote to the author and did my book therapy thing and expressed how freakin’ awesome this book was. I mean, she blew my mind with the epilogue AGAIN and I was left stupefied at the end. I wanted to read the whole series again just to get that feeling back. I was in a book haze for a while, smiling and telling my eyebrow wax lady that once again, you’ll fall in love with Maddox’s brother and how I wish I could talk about with you but will wait for her to finishing reading the book once she get’s it from Target. But to my surprise, Jamie McGuire writes me back and remembers me from RT convention and thanks me for the feedback and gave me a fuzzy feeling when she told me that the rest of the Maddox boys stories will be coming soon. So what pops in my head when I read a really good story is ‘what is going on in that author’s head”? Does she dream of these stories or is this her life? Well, not sure if am going to get the answer to this but this is a story that will make you think this. Usually sequels are as good as the first book in the series, but this one really gives Beautiful Disaster a run for its money, and just like children I can’t just pick a favorite. So in conclusion you NEED to read this story; it will give you warm and fuzzies and the angst you got from Beautiful Disaster and you will be in a book fog like me. And feel free to talk to me and let me know what you think, I know I needed to talk to someone afterwards, and we can go #Peacocking together. Post comments or talk on Facebook with me and we can vent together but please no spoilers.
