In the third book of the Beautiful Bastard series, an agreement between a venture capitalist and a bookish woman quickly becomes a very NSFW version of My Fair Lady.
When Hanna “Ziggy” Bergstrom moves to New York City for graduate school, Will Sumner thinks his responsibilities to his best friend’s nerdy little sister will be limited to the occasional dinner and check-in. Little does he know that Ziggy is ready to break out of her bookworm academic shell and move more into bombshell territory. Of course she figures the gorgeous womanizing venture capitalist Will is the best person to help mentor her in this new field of study: dating. Will takes on the challenge with more than a healthy dose of skepticism and humor, but soon finds that Ziggy just needed a tiny push, not a world of change, to reveal a woman every man seems to notice. Soon “Ziggy” is gone and the unfiltered, innocently seductive Hanna Bergstrom is hijacking his dreams, his moods, and even his orderly no-strings-attached dating life—beginning the night his mentoring activities move between the sheets.
Review
Another juicy book by Christina and Lauren. First, let me explain the order of this Beautiful Bastard series. The first book is Beautiful Bastard, second is Beautiful Stranger and then there’s what I call mini books Beautiful Bombshell 1.5 and Beautiful Bitch 2.5. Now I am going to talk about Beautiful Player, which is book number three in the series. This book talks about the story of Hanna (Ziggy), Will and their romance together.
First off, this Beautiful Bastard series and I have some history; I remember the first time I was introduced to this highly anticipated book to read in the contemporary romance genre. I was awaiting the book release and after reading the romance became an instant fan. Then I started following the authors to see what they were doing from time to time and see when the next book was coming out – I knew it was going to be a big series. Once I read it, I wanted to be in the know about the series. Then one lucky day I was invited to the release party of Beautiful Stranger. And that leads me to now; I developed a relationship with them and I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of Beautiful Player and soon I’ll be interviewing them today. I’ll be asking them about the book and how they wrote it.
Now onto the review. In Beautiful Player, the old gang is back together and this time, the fellas – Max, Bennett, and now Will – come together and Hanna is introduced to the group. What I love is the fact that we still got to hear about what was going with Chloe, Bennett, Max and Sarah from the previous Beautiful Bastards book. Will is friends with all them and he is asked by a long time friend to show his sister around her new town.
Okay, so the book is steamy just like all the others in the series. There are also some light-hearted laughter parts of the book. And comparing the book to the rest of the series, I actually liked this book better than Beautiful Stranger. I really felt that Beautiful Bastard was a good breakout book that started the series going – you got a lot of background, you understood the character base and you understood where the book was going. Beautiful Player was more story-based than the racy scenes of Beautiful Stranger. I like the fact that you do tend to root Hannah on while reading this book.
The parts of the book that I really connected with was with Hannah’s story. Hannah is a bookish type of girl as the book summary explained. She doesn’t have that many life experiences, she studies in the field of science and has always had her head in her books. In Beautiful Player, Will is the stereotypical middle-aged guy who doesn’t want a relationship with strings attached. And his best friend has a younger sister (Hanna) that hasn’t been in the city long. And so starts their relationship and the tension starts building. There are some very tongue-in-cheek times in the book that has you laughing and entertained. Overall, I did enjoy reading this book. I would recommend this book for people looking for a very light read that’s funny and steamy. If you’re looking for a book you can really quickly can get through, this is the book for you.
