Well, youza! This story and it’s author came out nowhere for me. I heard some chatter about the book, but I had no idea what was so appealing about the book other than the cover 🙂
So I jumped in and started reading this book. The author, I really didn’t know much about, so you know I was kicking myself for not noticing her sooner.
This story is described as a New Adult romance, and starts off with the heroine in college. And the minute you start reading, you get drawn in right off the bat and you get sucked into Keegan’s (heroine) life and how she deals with things. I was really digging her; she is a strong woman with a great grown-up way of dealing with her issue at first glance. I say at first glance for a reason, but I will get to that later in the review. Her best friend Macie is a hoot, and is a ride or die friend that looks out for her bestie fearlessly. The two best friends are hilarious and complement each other. I loved the fact that Keegan was a normal sized woman with body issues like the rest of us. This got me interested even more, for the realness of a real woman, not some stick thin girl who says ‘poor me’. No, Keegan was dealing with the hand she was dealt.
As you read on, you meet Dodger and Camden. Loved Dodger, not so much Camden – at least at first. I was trying to figure out how the author was going to get me to start liking Camden, because he just kept digging his own grave more and more as the story went on. I will say that Camden’s moods do shape the story in the end and I did love him by then. I mean, he was all Alpha, but he turns sweet towards the end.
Now, there are some parts that had me frustrated and rolling my eyes. Getting back to Keegan and her body issues: they became a bit much for me. Keegan got on my nerves so much for complaining and verbalizing how she was inferior due to her weight, when she was the ONLY person who saw that. The angry outbursts were a bit much too. Keegan goes from super responsible to a bit crazed regarding a certain situation. I want to think that it’s because Camden rubbed off on her, but I’m not sure about that. One thing’s for sure is that I overall enjoyed the story and was really pleasantly surprised how into it I was, and I’m looking forward to the next installment.
I gave the book 4.0 stars.
