“Suspenseful, cleaver, and a killer twist of events – will you be on Team Trent or Team Kash?”

Before I start my review, I would suggest that you read Forgiving Lies first before Deceiving Lies, but here is my review just in case you missed it.
So when I first read a Molly McAdams book I always brace myself with for the twist and turns and the most complicated love triangles – and sometimes love squares – she likes to give us. I get so caught up and vested with the characters every time, and just when you think you got it all happily ever after, she throws you a plot twist that has you spinning, and once again she did that again. This time, it was altogether different and can happily say that (SPOILER ALERT) she did not kill off your favorite hero.
In the last book, we were left off with Kash and Rachel back together and living at his place while Kash works for the local police force. Now, in the epilogue of Forgiving Lies you read that Rachel was taken AGAIN and you know that it was related to Kash’s past gang case. But this book picks up right after Rachel decided to move in with Kash, which is about a month and half before she actually gets taken.
At first, I just fell in love with Kash and Rachel’s relationship again; the banter between the two of them is so cute. But if Rachel heard me say that, she would hate it because I used the word “cute” to describe her relationship – she’d be pissed (have to read the book to understand). The story begins with Kash and Rachel blissfully happy, and all is well, but I am saying to myself, ‘When is going to happen?’, when is Rachel going to be taken. And then when it does happen, this is when the book picks up some steam and I start not wanting to put it down. As soon as she gets taken you get a clue of what her captors are going to be like once one captures her and says:
“I’m sorry”
And so it begins, you read on the edge, so upset about the fact this new guy who took her is falling in love with her. My emotions about what is happening are so team Kash! I found myself thinking, ‘Rachel, you have to stay in love with Kash’ and I did not like where her relationship with Taylor/Trent was going. As soon as he declared his love to her in one scene I had to read the rest. Even though I was frustrated with the fact that this was happening, at the same time I couldn’t put it down. I felt so bad for Kash, here he is, devastated, his girl is gone AGAIN and blaming him self .
“I wish I could hold you. I wish I could tell you how much I love you. I wish I could hear you laugh. I just wish I knew that I would see you again”.
You see how heartbroken Kash is that his women is gone? Well, I will explain later why I referenced the above quote in the book.
So, after she is taken of course, Rachel is wanting to be with Kash and not understanding the circumstances; she’s really trying to understand why this Taylor guy is protecting her from other people in the house. Her instincts tell her to trust him and I don’t know if I really trusted him while reading. I was waiting for a twist in the story, but then it happens and there is no doubt that Taylor has feelings for Rachel…although Rachel doesn’t understand that until the end of her capture.
“Rachel, I know you’re not mine to take, and I know I’ll never hold a part of your heart the way he does… but thank you for giving me a little taste of what loving you would be like”.
Ahhh – I just feel that the guy (Taylor), even though he was charged with taking her I felt that he really didn’t want to do it and he would do anything to keep her safe. I thought there was guilt, love, and just wrong-place-at-the-wrong-time situation was his story in a nutshell.
Kash gets Rachel in the end, but there is a big plot twist that made me grit my teeth when it happened. I won’t tell you what because it would ruin the story, but it gets complicated and I wasn’t sure how Rachel was feeling about it when it happens. Kash of course reacts like Kash reacts and I really love how the story ends, and there is a happy ending.
“I’m not letting you go Rachel for anything. It’s you and me. Always, got it”?
I give this book a solid 4 stars for its suspense and action and a well-rounded story that has you swooning at the end. Now I want Trent’s story Molly!
