This is my first time reading a book from this author. Typically she writes historical romance books which are not so much my cup of tea. It was suggested to me by another author that this book was a contemporary romance book and the author boasted about their writing skills and talent.
This was a wonderful debut book in the contemporary romance genre for this author. I could tell that historical romance was in her background while reading in the story about Paris and historical references. It reminded me of the Gabriel’s Inferno series by Sylvain Reynard with all of the historical background which was nicely mixed into the story.
It starts out with Mia (the heroine) not wanting to leave her bed after a major break up right before her wedding date. Her best friends try to console her and finally are able to convince her to go to Paris – which was supposed to her honeymoon trip – to get over the break up. Mia likes to plan everything, which is cleverly used to describe her personality throughout the book and provides comic relief and understanding. Of course, Mia meets a guy who’s name is Lucas and they the spend the rest of the book in French cities.
4 things I really loved about this book
1. Taking me away to Paris, this city of love and romance
2. Reminds you to live in the moment
3. Lucas
4. Oh, did I mention Lucas?
5. Oh one more…It’s Very Very steamy 😉
I really liked Mia; she was honest and transparent with what she wanted and needed in her life. She was a very well rounded, self-sufficient woman that you really root for in the story. Her friends were people you want as your friends – so supportive. Mia’s mother was a typical over bearing mom who cares about her child a lot but doesn’t really know how support her daughter well enough during this time in her life. You really don’t get much info about her, but you can identify with how she feels.
I could totally see Paris, from when she walked into her hotel room to all the sightseeing she does. Oh boy, does she do the sightseeing. That part of story I really enjoyed the most, learning and feeling Paris. Don’t get me wrong, the steamy scenes are SUPER steamy and wow – Locus – well, you’re going to fall in love with him. I really liked him; not a bad boy, but just a good guy that Mia gets to know during her journey.
This is a standalone novel, but I have fantastic news that this is the first of a companion novel series in which Mia and Lucas will appear. So the story doesn’t end; I wanted to know what happens after Paris and what kind of trials are ahead of them. I give this book a solid 4.5 stars – a solid reading contemporary adult romance novel.
