So, I came across this book and this author at RT NOLA this year. I was introduced her via my very sweet author friend Debra Anastasia, who has held my hand through this whole RT experience. During the first night at RT NOLA, I met the author, who came off as this very fun and sweet little person, and I was so curious as to what kind of books she writes. So, as the convention goes on, I see her in different settings, like presentations and author signings, and each time I do a double take. Why, you say? Well, she is wearing a different wig every time I see her. I see her in a black haired sexy wig, a dirty blond and flirty wig, a straight platinum blond wig, and I think I saw her natural hair the last night in NOLA, but I can’t confirm, and that was more beautiful than the rest. I had to read her work, so I grabbed the e-book from her table, and took this quick picture below right after. We laughed and talked a bit; I still had no idea what she writes or her writing style. Just seeing and meeting her made me think that she had some good stories she had to tell – and boy was I right.
First off, I had no idea of the genre or the subject of the book, other than the title, so I expected some heart-wrenching rock star romance; but no, that is not what I got. I get this hilarious erotic romance story with out of the box characters that go together in the most interesting way. I’ve never read anything quite like it, which definitely represents who this author was – a breath of fresh air with a funny take on modern day erotic and spicy love.
I really liked Thea (the heroine). She was independent and strong and I could imagine she would have been just fine before she met the hero Keaton. She was funny and had a great personality, but like what most people are like while they’re in their college years, she was exploring new things and seeing what she liked and didn’t like in her life. The character had depth to her, and her banter with her friends was hilarious and kept me wanting to read more.
Then there is Keaton, a very typical playboy (ish) rock star with a really nice back story that will have you loving him even more. Even he had his funny moments and I was on egg shells hoping that he didn’t do something stupid so that I didn’t have to hate him later. But know that this story is not your typical boy-meets-girl-then-boy-falls-in-love-with-girl-and-we-all-live-happily-ever-after story. No, it is unique in that we get to read a really relatable story about a coming of age girl who is learning more about herself and what she wants in life, and it just so happens to push her in the direction of this very erotic and steamy romance at the end.
Overall, I enjoyed the read; it’s a very quick read that has you blushing and laughing at the same time. There is also another book that’s out called How to Discipline your Vampire that this author published before this current book; I haven’t read it yet but I plan too. I really enjoy her writing style of telling a story and the story flowed really fast for me. So I give it 4.5 stars.
