My Review

Just another smash hit from Kristen Ashley. This one is from the Mountain Man series that is about Decker and Emme’s story. If you have followed the Mountain Man series, you know that Decker is Chance’s best friend (from Breathe) – a best friend who works as a bounty hunter. He is off-the-charts smart and off-the-charts hot. The book Breathe was where we first really got to know a little bit more about Decker, but you can still read this book as a standalone, though I do recommend reading all the books in the series. The author loves to intermingle characters from other series in her books and in this one you get a cameo from the Rock Chick series hot bunch.

The story starts right where Decker and Emme meet after years of not being in each others lives. Decker is a passionate Alpha male, protective and smart as a whip. He demands attention while in his presence. I am loving Emme’s confidence in going up against him and challenging his authority and politics; she is sweet and charming and the book slowly builds these friends-turned-lovers story at a steady and natural pace. In this story, reading Breathe beforehand is needed to understand Decker and his role in the series. There was not much said about him in the series other than what’s in Breathe, but you get a better idea of his background and how he was raised, and why he does his profession. Although I do enjoy reading KA books with detectives or bounty hunters, I was hoping he would have a different twist than the rest. I enjoyed reading about both Decker and Emme’s pasts and seeing how it fits fully into the book, which added lots of anticipation regarding what will happen next. I won’t reveal what happened in Emme’s past, but her past builds and builds until it breaks loose towards the end of the story. Thinking about what happened with her, her actions were somewhat unbelievable, but I rolled with it anyway because overall I enjoyed the story. If you have read a Kristen Ashley book in the past and loved it, you will love this book. Has all the formulas of the Alpha male: overprotective, over possessive, and just plan swoon worthy – you get it in this book. The story moves at a steady pace, allowing you to read in one setting.
