This is the first time that I have read any of author Tamika Newhouse’s work. When looking at any of the her titles to read, I wanted to read something contemporary romance. Kisses Don’t Lie starts off focusing on five different characters: Kyla, her sister Brittany, Michael, Dean and Keith. Keith was written into the book at the beginning and end, but I don’t want to give away the book, so I won’t tell too much about his role. Just know that once you get to know his character and you will find out more about him towards the end of the book and probably in the sequel also.
I do have to warn you that at the beginning of the book it does start a little slow but understand that you are getting to know them, so just hang on. The author goes into great detail about each character that’s pivotal in this novel. I felt that the author did a very good job explaining each person clearly so that you can follow what’s going on with the book. They all come together in the middle of this book, with the two sisters as the central intermingling point.
This is a very fast-paced read that you don’t want to put it down. I was tweeting the author once again telling her, ‘how could you?!’ or ‘what?!’ by the end of the story. I will warn you that there is quite a cliffhanger and you’ll want to read the second book, so give yourself enough time to read both books. You experience different characters’ points of view where you would hear from Kayla’s point of view and then it will jump to Michael’s point of view. I really enjoyed that the POV way of telling a story because it helped me understand what was going on with the characters. There are several characters in the book and if the books wasn’t written this way you would be very confused. The author mastered the ability to tell us a very entertaining story with three different story lines going on at the same time.
I would say the heat factor in this book is about four out of five, really steamy. You get invested in the characters, but you don’t really fall in love with them. What I mean by that is that is that each and every one of them has this history of bad choices and that’s where you are going through the book trying to figure out what are these bad choices that each character had to deal with in their past. You also learn that all the characters are dealing with some hum dingier of bad choices in the present as well. What I really liked is that I didn’t see the twist and turns coming. If it was the author’s goal to have you breathless by the end and wanting more, then she hit her goal with me, overall I would recommend this book.
The book get’s a 4.5 stars for this book because you are left with a mother of a cliff hanger and I just was not ready to read book two yet.
Book order: and FYI, Barnes and Noble has the first book for FREE!
