I hate it when this happens, but I can’t lie to you, so here we go.
So I started off wanting another kick-butt fighters romance and found this book on Amazon. I read the intro and said to myself this sounds good- but boy was I wrong. Let me start with this disclaimer: my reviews are just that – my opinions of a story and explanations of why I feel that way. With that I will proceed with the review.
This story starts off with a flashback into the past of one Alyson, the protagonist in the story. Then she she wakes up, and like another book which I will not name, her girlfriend/roommate talks her into going to this secret underground fight. Well, to say it started off for me slow is putting it mildly. I was now paying attention to make sure this story is not identical to another very popular book and one of my personal favorite series, but thankfully after Alyson meets the fighter their reunion goes a little differently, so I exhailed. So coming from that fog of a very predictable direction of the story, I was hoping to be surprised or swoon over the fighter, but all I felt was lukewarm feelings about the story. I can say that midway in the book I was having the hardest time keeping motivated to read the book, but I powered through and I just couldn’t feel too much about it. There was cliche stuff going on and the story just didn’t grab me. Things that may have gotten me more excited about the story are a catchier plot and more surprising twists and turns.
I hate giving reviews like this, but I must keep true to my opinion and give this book 2 stars. 🙁
