“You left me, Cameron. And I cried over you. Every night, for whole days at a time, for months after you died”

I was so excited to get this book after years of waiting for the sequel, and I just squealed when I found it in my kindle book list. This has minor spoilers in my review, so reading this may affect you if you haven’t read (my review) Crow’s Row, the first book.
So first off, I want to address the new cover for Crow’s Row and Scare Crow: don’t think that this book is scary based on all the science fiction seen on the cover. No, it’s straight-up gangsta romances with a huge amount of suspense and action. Although Scare Crow was more about what happened to Emily after Cameron’s death than action, it still kept me speeding through the pages to finish. Please note that I received the book around 4:00pm on a weekend day and finished it 2:00am the next morning. I was so drawn into the story; it just grabbed at you and pulled you in. I was on the edge of my seat, waiting for Cameron to show his face or show signs he was alive, so that Emily would know she wasn’t alone. But this my friend did not happen until the end of the book.
Things I loved about this book was that you learned more about the history of Emily life before Cameron, and you feel so sorry for her. My heart broke for her because she didn’t have anyone looking out for her or loved her like she desperately wanted, and the only family she knew that did care was dead. In the beginning of the book she was really down on her situation and I was cheering once Grif showed up and picked up the pieces.
Let me tell you that I loved Grif and his spirit and that sexy Aussie accent he had. The love he had for Emily was bouncing off the pages in the story. I almost wanted him for Emily and not Cameron – but only almost. I read like a speed demon too so that I could get to that part.
Another nice thing about this book was getting Cameron’s POVs which you don’t get in Crow’s Row. He goes on his journey in this story, which is super dark, dealing with his depression from separation from Emily and addressing / tying up loose ends he had from his past. I was surprised to read his thoughts, I knew he was super smart, but he thought of only bad endings when it came to his life.
Of course, Spider and Carley are huge parts of this story; they have their own situation going on that has your heart racing and stopping. There was a moment I just squealed and yelled at Cameron and pleaded he wouldn’t do it, but no such luck – that is what makes this story and keeps you invested till the end.
Know that this is not the last book of this series and I hope we don’t have to wait years until the next, but I can say there is no major cliff hangers, just the question of what is next for this story. It could go so many ways, I just don’t know, but I rate this book 4.5 stars.
“It will have your heart racing and chest squeezing – this heart breaking romance story will crawl inside you and stick with you for days”
