“This book is fun. Sexy. And it sizzles. This Rosemary Beach series addition does not disappoint and has you lured in from the beginning.”

First off, I want to tell everyone who is thinking of buying this book that I would strongly encourage you to read the first book from the series to truly understand what’s going on. There are 5 previous books in the series and I read them all and enjoyed every single one of them. They are quick, fun reads that take you to the beautiful, sunny Rosemary Beach in Florida. You follow this quaint small beach town that really caters to tourists, and with the weather we are having in my state, it is a welcomed break from the wintery cold.
So now, let’s talk about Take a Chance. In the beginning of the book it took me right back to hating Nan. Well, I don’t really want to say I hate her, I would like to say she is just misunderstood, but I felt no signs of me misunderstanding her. If you haven’t read this series, you probably don’t know what I am talking about, which is why I say it is important to read the previous books to get my drift. Because this was Grant’s (the one Blair pulled a gun on in the first book) and Harlow’s (Nan’s half sister) story, I knew I would be seeing Nan in this book, but I hoped that it wasn’t all about her, and I can tell you folks that it wasn’t!! Yipeee!!! Throughout the book you do come across Nan and she shows up in some scenes, but the book truly goes into Harlow’s current and past life. Grant’s history was also visited but not really needed so much because he is in previous book, so you know him a lot more than Harlow. Harlow is Nan’s half sister whom Nan hates and continues to treat like scum. Her jealousy and rage still rings true in this book, but people are FINALLY growing tired of Nan’s behavior and are putting her in her place. Towards mid-book you find that Grant finally gets more courage and starts to feel that he deserves a good person in his life, and is determined to work on himself and prove to Harlow he can be that man.

Harlow was very shy and cautious of Grant at first. She had major reasons to be, and I understood why, so I felt her reaction to Grant at first was warranted. I mean, she may have been super shy and stand-offish, but she also would not let anyone get through the walls she put up to keep herself from getting hurt. She had always preferred to be alone, take care of her father and really just be invisible.
On the other hand, I felt Grant’s past paralyzed him on how he delft with Harlow. I do have to say that in the beginning, I was rolling my eyes at Grant and his man-whore tactics and saying to myself, ‘here’s another man-whore-turned-changed-man book’. Yes, these characters are coming of age and are still experimenting with life, but it gets kinda predicable when that happens. I was so happy to see the man whore ways end in the middle of the story when Grant starts to wise up with help from his good friends Rush and Blaire.
“I decided I never wanted to be that vulnerable. I never wanted to love someone that much. I never wanted to face losing the one person that owns me.”
“I don’t do protective and crazy. Never have. But you… I want to wrap you up and run off with you so no one can touch you again. Just me. Always me.”
There are some old characters that we get to read about in this book and there was some new ones as well. We meet Adam, a tennis instructor and will drive Grant mad. Adam is a new employee at the country club who spices things up a bit. You also read about Becky (whose boyfriend Jace died) and how she is doing after Jace’s death; she pops in and out of the series. But my favorite person to read about is Mace, who is Harlow and Nan’s half brother. He is introduced in the book around page 70. I LOVE how he is so protective of Harlow; that relationship is golden. Do I smell a new romance book about Mace???
In the middle of the story you learn why Harlow feels the need to take care of her father Kiro and why she is so special to him. I found that this was the most heart-warming part of the story. I was shocked to find out a major change of events that really changed my view of Kiro all together, and I liked it. I found myself really rooting for Harlow; she is a hard person not to love. I gritted my teeth at times, and frankly she was more forgiving than I would been in the same situation, but based on what you learn about Harlow that is just how innocent and kind she is. The story does end with a cliff hanger, but author Abbi Glines does not take long to release her series books; the next one is One More Chance and it releases July 1, 2014. With that, this book gets a solid 4 stars.
