This story is about a very feisty girl named Maise; she talks to you as if she is telling you a story in this book. I really enjoy it when books do that; I feel like they’re sitting right next to you, telling you a story and you are just there for support your friend.
Maise isn’t a gal’s gal, she is more of a loner and likes it that way. I can could tell just by reading this book I would really like this girl as a friend only if she would let me in, so having the chance to listen to her story makes me like at the least I get to know her better and why she is the way she is. I mean she hangs out by herself at events and is the loner girl that eats lunch by herself at school and actually prefers it that way. It’s too bad because she has a very mature way of looking at the world and her love for her mother – who doesn’t deserve it – is very endearing to say the least.
So at the beginning of the book I was sucked in immediately; this is a pretty easy and fast paced book to read. What I loved the most was the originality of the story. At first, I was thinking that she’s a 18 year old, and then a 30 something year old… I don’t know if I can do it. But the story was written just right so that it wasn’t creepy, more of a innocent love story that had some messed up circumstances you didn’t see coming. I do have to say in the very beginning I was able to figure out where the story was going, but that does change midway through the book.
Oh and yes, the biggest plus of this book is that I didn’t even guess the plot twist right. I gasped when I found out what the second twist is, which you find out towards the end. But no fear, there is a happy ending and this book is a standalone with NO CLIFF HANGERS!!:-)
Overall, the Maise and Evan (the teacher) story is the kind of story that drew me in from the first page. The “let me tell you a story” POV way of storytelling is always funny and unique. I found myself laughing at Maise’s jokes and her think-out-loud thoughts, and Evan’s a sucker for a certain type of girls, which makes him typical, yet you learn he is so much more to him than that. How they get through the whole courting processes and challenges is all unique, and when that plot twist hits you, you have no idea it was coming. I have to give it 5 stars. A must read for lovers of unique and funny, with a little bit of dark romance books.
I got this recommendation from another author, M.Peirce., who said that this was a must read and I thank you for the referral, M. Peirce; it was all that and bunch of surprises. This is a standalone so all you have to do is get this one book and you are set.
