When I first started reading the book I was a little distracted by the author writing in the perspective of the lead female character (First person). I thought well, surely this will end at some point, but it did not. So I warn you that you will only read her perspective of what is going on the whole time. This was a very different take on what I am used to reading so I had to adjust my view on this book.
It starts off very similar to Fifty Shades, but in more of an up-to-date way (you will understand if you read the book). When Rachael was first taken, I was like, ‘come on – what is he going to do to win her over to really like him?’ I wanted to believe this could be real in my mind, but I did not understand why she was on the fence about her feelings towards her capture. Yes, he was extremely good looking, but I would have bypassed it when he told me we were on a deserted island and he wanted to be with me. “Crazy” alarm bells were ringing in my ears, and I was waiting for her to make an escape plan, but no – she just takes it and still falls for the guy.
I understand that the main male lead was broken and he felt this was the only way, but I would have said, ‘you know, you have great insurance and you could get the best therapist money can buy. And after that, come back and talk to me when we both feel you are stable. Until then, take me home.’
Another freaky thing that happens in the book is when he can’t touch her and he sends in his – well, you’ll know what I mean when you read the book – and she did not go off on him right then. I was shocked about it, and thought she still was pissed about it, and it was a turning point in the book. It just confirmed that dude needed to see a therapist, not get in a relationship.
Overall, I did see the entertaining value of the book. It’s a very read-this-if-you-like-Fifty-Shades kinda book, but it was not as entertaining as I would have liked it to be. I was waiting for some big action parts but it really never came. I would recommend this book if you want a light read that is similar to Fifty Shades, but note it’s without too much action.
