Book Review

This book was unique and was so entertaining. I do have to say that the formatting of how the book was written made it somewhat hard to follow, but the story itself was original to me. It is not a vampire/werewolf/witch/warlock book – no, it is altogether different. The Seven Devils that the title of this book refers to has nothing to do with those creatures; this is altogether different and unique. It started off with bang and you quickly find out about Ellen’s family issues and the drama that comes with it, and why she had to move away from where they stayed. Ellen starts off as a junior in high school who has a lack of social skills and feels alone because no one has ever protected her or paid attention to her regarding her needs. Then she meets Neil, who seems just as much of a recluse as she is. His secrets and his family issues do not compare to Ellen’s, not in size, at least, just on how complex his story of why he has social issues. Without giving away the book, you feel for Neil and at the same time wonder if he can overcome his “Sins”.

At first I was on edge about what Neil was hiding alright; he did not just beat up kids or a portray a womanizer, – no, his issues are not really defined by the school student body. That had me up all night reading this book – I had to find out what is that is so bad. I knew there were some things that did have me frustrated with Ellen; she was way too forgiving about everything, even when someone clearly wanted her dead, and Neil was the exact opposite. When it came to the point where I could not believe what was happening, but I just chalked it up to the “Deadly Sins”.

Ellen’s mother and brother bothered me in that they had no regard for Ellen and blamed her for everything – and I mean everything – even though all she did was exist. This made her missing the holidays with her family so sad. I mean, who does not even remember to come home for the holidays to spend time with your family? Anyway, there is romance and teen drama that occurs, but it still entertaining. I am not sure when the sequel is planned to come out but I do want to know what happens next. I like how the story ends, but it makes you want to know more, because Neil has added powers that I can’t wait to see what he does with. 🙂
