I had heard about this book through the reading community and just the title made me do a double take; I wanted to find out more about the book.
The synopsis
Cass Daniels isn’t waiting for her knight in shining armor. She knows that girls like her don’t get a happily ever after. Not if you live in a trailer with your mom, work at a greasy spoon diner, and get leered at by old men. Maybe that’s why she puts up with Jackson—her poor excuse for a boyfriend, who treats her like dirt. Cass has learned to accept her lot in life. That is, until he walks into her diner. . . .
His name is Tucker White, and he’s different from any man Cass has ever known. Tall, tattooed, and bad-ass gorgeous, he’s the lead singer of the rock band Damaged. From the moment they meet, Tucker sees something in Cass he just can’t shake. Something beautiful. Something haunted. Something special. And he’s determined to find out what it is—if only he can get her to open up and let him in.
Review
So after reading the synopsis I dove in and started to read this New Adult romance with open eyes. I want to make sure you know that I am reading the Target book version of the book, which is the expanded edition that features 100 pages of never before seen material. FYI ,the e-book version may not have it.
The story starts out with the cliche main character of Cass, who works in a dinner and living in a trailer park. A new customer comes into the diner and Cass captures his attention. I want to tell you there were surprises in the story but it really didn’t happen until the very end. It was a nice read, steady and well written. It’s a really fast read so you finish in a day. The book is written in Cass’s POV, so you get to know her better this way and understand her focus in her life. What I do like about Cass is that she is a realistic kind of girl, as the synopsis says she’s not looking for a prince, nor was she planning on it. She has a plan and is working really hard toward it. When people use the “white trash” reference, I kinda wince in my chair. I mean, there are lots of words out there that can take control of you if you get called it over and over again until you tend to believe it, and in the story you get to dive in with those thoughts and actions in story.
I have to be honest, the reality of this romance is very fictional to me but this is fiction and fantasy… this story is more a escape read that will have you entertained. It reminds me of One Week Girlfriend by Monica. A very light read with some steamy scenes to boot. I rate this book a solid 4 stars.
” Entertaining and emotional coming of age romance starts off sweet and ends with a touching revelation.”
