Interview with Steph Campbell
I read that you are shy and writing books seems a perfect fit. What other job would you do if you did not write?
I’m not actually very shy, I just tend to listen a lot. If I’m spoken to, I have no problem opening up. I like to people-watch and take in the room, so that may come across as shy, but I’m really just taking everything in.
You like to co-write with other authors. How is working another author’s ‘work’, and how is it different than the books where you were the sole author? Which do you prefer?
I think the biggest difference is that it’s much faster to co-write. Co-writing for me, is like the best version of Choose-Your-Own-Adventure imaginable. I write a chapter and send it on, then when I wake up, there’s a whole new twist I didn’t even think of. It’s amazing.
It helps that I’m not a control freak, and the two ladies I’ve written with, Liz Reinhardt and Jolene Perry are very easy going, too. We’re all total partners as far as plotting goes, so it works well for us!
If you had to go back and do it all over, is there any aspect of your novels, or aspect of getting them published, that you would change?
I’d like to say that I wouldn’t have queried so long (three years) or I would’ve jumped into self-publishing sooner, but the truth is, I think I learned a lot from those years of querying and getting feedback and I really grew as a writer and as a person during that time. So, I’m satisfied with my journey.
From all the books you’ve written, which ‘book boyfriend’ would you most likely date (if you were not married, of course =)) and why?
Tough one! It’s a toss up between Cohen (DEPTHS) and Tobin (MY HEART FOR YOURS.) But if I had to choose, I’d pick Cohen. He’s super hard-working and independent, but also fiercely protective of what and who he loves. There’s a line in DEPTHS that describes him as “sweet on the street, alpha in the sheets,” and that fits him perfectly! He’s sexy and just the total package!
Which book did you have the most difficult time to complete and what did you do to get through finishing it?
BEAUTIFUL THINGS NEVER LAST. It’s the first, and only sequel I’ve written, and I really struggled with knowing if I was doing the characters that I loved so much justice. In the end, I hope I did. I’m happy with where things ended for Quinn and Ben, and I think it’s realistic to their relationship journey.
What kind of projects are you working on currently and what do you have planned in the future?
I actually have two releases planned for this summer!
The first is LIMITS (the third installment in the LENGTHS series that I’ve co-written with Liz Reinhardt); it’s bitchy and sexy like the other books…but it’s got a different quality than the other two also! We’re really excited for its release in June!
The second is MY FATE FOR YOURS (the prequel to MY HEART FOR YOURS with Jolene Perry.) If you’ve read MY HEART FOR YOURS, you know Tobin’s story. He’s Eamon’s brother. FATE is Eamon’s story. We’re planning on a July 15th release!
Andrea’s Book Blog believes in helping others help themselves; are there any charities or organizations you would like the fans to know that you support?
My family and I are big supporters of the American Heart Association as well as Children’s Hospital in New Orleans. Our youngest daughter, Britta, was born with a life-threatening heart defect that wasn’t diagnosed until she was 3 weeks old. She was airlifted from our small town to Children’s Hospital for emergency open heart surgery where they literally saved her life. 1 in every 100 babies is born with a congenital heart defect. Those statistics are staggering. Obviously, this is a cause very close to our entire family.
You too can support your favorite author’s most personal and most cherished charities by supporting them. Let Steph know if you gave your time or money to any of these charities; I am sure she would love to hear from you, and I have posted below the web sites of both foundations so that you can also give to these very special organizations.
