On March 5th, 2014, I had the opportunity to watch the pre-screening of Divergent in Minneapolis. I met the author of the book in which the movie is based on, Veronica Roth, and Ansel Elgort, who plays Caleb in the movie. As for my review, I will reserve my book-to-movie review until closer to the movie release day – March 21st, 2014 – but I wanted to share some of what I was able to learn about the book and the movie.
Movie trailer below:
We meet on March 6th, 2014, in the afternoon with other members of the Press in downtown Minneapolis. Both Veronica and Ansel walked in from what I can imagine was a long day of other interviews and meetings. I have to mention that at first glance, they both came in wearing these really cool metallic high tops that looked so much more comfortable than what I was wearing that cold, wet day. They came in with a really easy-going energy which made me feel even more pumped about the interview. I know they are really busy with this press tour, so I wasn’t sure if there would be time for pictures, or even if they’d feel like taking pictures for that matter. So I went ahead and asked, and Veronica asked Ansel, “Are you picture friendly?” Ansel replied “Ya, I’m picture friendly”.
Today I am just going to give you a short interview summary of the interview and will give full review of movie on movie release day. Here are some of the questions that were asked during the press tour.
Assuming that we all were Divergent, which faction would you be?
Ansel: “I feel everyone is Divergent; I answered this differently yesterday, but today I feel all them.”
Veronica: -“Candor well all of them”
Veronica, how much input did you have going into the movie?
“Once I gave the book to readers, I let it go; people have their different ways that they imagine the book to be. I pretty much did the same with the movie and did not control the way of the movie and trusted that directors did what they wanted to do the movie”.
Veronica what’s it like to see your hometown “Chicago” portrayed in the movie? ”It was great to see – there were jobs created in my hometown – to know that you contributed of any kind. Having it be in Chicago, everyone can see my beautiful city.”
How did you choose the five factions? “While writing the books I examined my own tendency and which qualities would tackle my own in society.”
What are you working on next?
Veronica: “Four short stories written in Four’s perspective, coming out in July. The first three books take place before Divergent chronologically and then the 4th one overlaps the Divergent series, which was fun, to write the romance all over again”.
Both: “We start filming Insurgent in May or June of this year if the Divergent movie goes well.”
Ansel: “ I make music with Ansolo, as well as write music. A friend of mine arranged computer dance music. Our first music label launches next month in the UK.”

Ooh that is so cool that you got to meet them!!! And interview them!! Ok, so, interesting that VR is so busy with the movie and the novellas that she’s not writing anything new. I wonder what she’ll write when this is all over.

Thank you, I was so excited to meet her and see the movie. She and actor Ansel were the nicest people you will meet. Regarding books she is working on she has the short stories you will see on the blog that some are released some are pre order but I do know she said something about this book series is not the only book series she will write in her age of 25 years. I think the whole movie stuff really took up a lot of time. She was on set everyday. Glad you like the interview. I will have a giveaway of a signed books from the author and Ansel soon. 🙂
