K.A. Robinson is from a small town in West Virginia. She still lives there today with her crazy two year old son and husband of four years.
When she isn’t writing, she loves to read and constantly has her nose buried in her Kindle, much to her husband’s annoyance. Her favorites are usually something about dystopian societies or hot rock stars with tattoos.
She can’t cook to save her life, and is a firm believer in frozen pizza. Her addictions include Diet Pepsi, Starbucks, and Cocoa Pebbles, as well as an addiction to all things tattooed.
Her debut novel, Torn, was released for Amazon Kindle and Barnes and Noble’s Nook on January 25th, 2013, and was on Amazon’s Kindle Top 100 for a month.
Twisted, the second book of the Torn series, was released at the end of March 2013. Below you will see the links to her books!
This talented author is only 22-23 years old, and loves to write – she plows threw writing stories with ease. I was in awe when she told me that one of her high school teachers asked the class to write a 10 page story and she ended up writing a 30 page plus story. K.A. just said to the teacher “I could not do the story right if I just wrote 10 pages”. I told her that I had a problem in college just getting my book reports done and K.A. must have been born to write, because this was the easiest thing for her. K.A. was really nervous about coming to Minnesota; she has never flown before, but stuck it out to meet her fans. She adores her fans and is still in shock that she is a New York Times best selling author. Anyway, enough about our side chat – let’s start the interview!
Thank you, K.A. Robinson for participating in Andrea’ s Book Blog interview!
Thank you so much for asking me!
What kind of work did you do before you became an author? Do you miss it?
I’m actually still at my “day” job. (I know, I’m crazy!) I work at a Kubota Tractor dealership as Parts and Warranties manager.
What kind of things do you do when you are not writing?
I love to read or listen to music. The rest of my time is spent with my demon – uh, I mean two year old son – and husband.
Where did you get your ideas to write your books?
They just randomly pop into my head. I LOVE it, but sometimes it can get annoying. Try taking a shower and needing to write down an idea before you forget it.
Can you tell me some of the challenges you faced getting your first book published?
I was self-published originally. The hardest part was having the courage to put myself out there and ask blogs to share. I’m a very shy person if I don’t know you, so doing that was horrible!
Have you written a book that you loved and just haven’t published yet? If yes, then why?
I’m working on a few books unrelated to the Torn series, but I’m not finished with them yet. Other than those, I haven’t.
What has been the toughest criticism given to you as an author? What has been the best compliment?
I think every one star or two star review is my “toughest” criticism. As for the best compliment, it was when both Michelle Valentine and Emily Snow told me how much they loved my book, Torn. Fan girl moment.
Is there anything you would like to say to your fans?
I know I say this all the time, but THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! None of this would have been possible without your support. You guys mean the world to me!
Is there anything you are working on currently?
I am working on a couple different things right now – Torn #3 and an untitled book I just started on this week (One of those shower ideas!).
Andrea’s Book Blog believes in helping people help themselves; is there an organization or charity that you support that you would like for us to list?
As of right now, I am not officially setup with a charity. I’m new to all of this and still working on finding my footing. I WILL say that I am VERY anti-drug. (If you’ve read Torn/Twisted you know this.)
Since the interview: The author lost a good friend to a drug over dose. Since then, she has posted on her blog to her fans to contact her if they feel the need regarding their alcohol issue.
Message from K. A. Robinson: To anyone out there reading this who uses drugs, I beg of you to get help. You’re not only hurting yourself, but your friends and family as well. If you’re scared, MESSAGE ME. I know I’m a bit slow about replying at times, but I WILL message you back. I can give you links to sites that can help you, or I’ll just listen if you need to talk.
You are worth so much more. Love you all
