Spotlight/Review
I don’t normally review a whole box set of different stories, but this box set was different for me. I first noticed this box set when one of my favorite authors posted about this work she was doing on this box set. Being a fan of her books I instantly wanted to read it. Then I saw the long list of other authors that have contributed stories and I was in. I would be lying if I didn’t point out there were other reasons; I wanted to feature this box set on the my site. It not only has hot romance stories in it, but they all happen to be multicultural romances / Interracial Romances. This is a category I sometimes see people overlook, and it has only a few select people who seek out these type of romances. It’s not like they aren’t popular once someone is exposed to these romances. But because most of them are self-published and have limited budgets for promoting, and they are sometimes not on the top of the recommended board of your favorite online store. But that is changing; for example, Pepper Pace was recently rated second to Fifty Shades of Grey’s E.L. James in Amazon’s best-selling romances.
So let’s talk about the stories in the book. I had a chance to read two books in the set – Everything is Everything by Pepper Pace and Tattooed Moon by Tiana Laveen – and both were vastly different from one another, but nonetheless sensational reads.
First up, I will talk about Everything is Everything by Pepper Pace; this story is set in the 70’s in the projects of Winton Terrece (fictional city, see pic above) area and it has all sorts flashbacks to that time and more. In pure Pepper fashion, she chooses to write love stories for very unique characters in which you would not normally think of when you think of “the projects”, but somehow have you feeling the vibe and atmosphere of the story. Vanessa in the beginning of the story is 12 years old and Scotty is 14 years old; this is where the story begins and very nicely outlines the story in an entertaining way. I instantly started connecting with the characters and their family ties and circumstances. This is not a big gangster story at all; it’s a slow romance story that is filled with heartache and sure thrills of swoon moment after swoon moment. Just like every other story Pepper writes you have no idea how the story is going to end and I was gritting my teeth during the plot twists – yes, plural. There were times I said a small prayer to the author: “please make this a happy ending… please don’t go there with their future”… yes, I was all in and couldn’t put the book down.
Page by page, there was another twist and turn that had you pulled in deeper and deeper until I looked at the clock and I had finished the story at 2:00am in the morning. In the end, there is a bit of a cliff hanger and relief was given when I read that the second book in the series will be coming out soon.
After I recovered from the book hangover I then went on and read Tattooed Moon by Tiana Laveen.
This one took me to Atlanta and Athens GA, present time. In true Taina fashion the male lead is an Alpha with very strong opinions and thoughts on his life and what he does with it. As the title reads, this male lead is a tatted up hippy, yet uniquely settled man who in the beginning I was just lukewarm about. But once he met Milan and his whole world changes I swooned and liked his smart alec self. I had that I-hate-you-but-won’t- admit-I-love-you relationship with him. His views were not common, yet refreshing, and he snuck up on me just like he did with Milan. Their circumstances on how they connect is tragic, but what she is lacking he is strong and vise versa and it just works. I felt good in the end on how it ends and had that warm and fuzzy feeling.
Overall, I haven’t read all the stories in this set yet but I did enjoy the ones I did read, and I am sure I will feel the same for the rest of them. But the value of 9 stories for only 99 cents is a steal. As for the rating for the books I have read so far they both get 5 stars for me.
